A London palazetto

San Domenico House, in one of the richest boroughs of London between Chelsea and Sloane Square, exudes character and passion. It has been in the hands of an Italian family since 2003 and is the London version of their sumptuous house in Italy’s Apulia region which has been transformed into a luxury hotel bearing the Italian version of the same name: the Masseria San Domenico.

From bright and arid Apulia, vibrant London is only a step, or rather a dream, away, the dream of the owner of the hotel to capitalise on her experience as hotelier/great traveller by expanding into a pied-à-terre style hotel tucked away from the city centre.

An unusual mix of Italian sensuality and British comfort, San Domenico House has been tastefully decorated throughout by the owner who has demonstrated a great and rare flair for creating ambiances. The rooms, refurbished between 2003 and 2006, are all different. Each a little world in its own right, they combine sobriety and opulence as an elegant, sophisticated backdrop for the myriad of little details and antiques on display.

The hotel has a mere 16 rooms and suites so it retains the tranquillity and intimacy of a private house. Italian-style service.

The clientele

As you would expect, the hotel attracts a sophisticated, Italian clientele but it will appeal to anyone looking for a style of décor you rarely find in London. San Domenico House is the ideal hotel for those looking for a lively location away from the hustle and bustle of the city centre and a muted, intimate atmosphere rather than big hotel lounges and hectic hotel life.
